Why not just believe Jesus? Why not just believe every New Testament writer. Even the 1st century Hebrew Christians knew he was coming soon.
Hebrews 10:37 – For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.
You shoul examine the Greek in this passage. There is a double adverb meaning “very” that is translated only once in most Bible versions. YLT is the only one I have seen that expresses Jesus’ coming as “a very, very little” while. This was the “day approaching in Hebrews 10:25!
You recognize “A” coming in 70 AD. What you really need to do (and I mean really) is take every reference to His coming in the NT, place them in one column and then draw another column beside those references and then ask your self this one simple question. “Is this verse referring to the alleged “final” coming or is this just one of the many referring to the “soon” coming of the Lord. After you are done, please point out any Scripture that lets the audience know of the change between the “soon” coming and the far, far, far away coming.
You might be interested to know that in the Olivet discourses of Mark and Luke that the disciples’ question is framed with the usage of “mello,” Strong’s 3195 which means “about to” in Mark 13:4 and Luke 21:7.
John’s account of Revealtion (no “s”) is sandwiched in between two unmistakable references to the time of his prophecy. They are Rev 1:1, 1:3 Rev 22:6, 22:10.
There is no getting around this. The timing of His coming is very clear.
Daniel 12:7, in reference to the “time of the end” (not the end of time) said it would occur when “when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.” Now I ask you, “Do you think the time has arrived to scatter the power of the holy people or not?”
Biblical Judaism has been WIPED OUT for the last 2,000 years never to reappear except in the futurist’s scheme of things. For them, the whole Judaism construct must be re-established and destroyed again (as it already has been) and then a reversion back to “a” system of the law with animal sacrifices in their 1,000 year milennial kingdom. This is ABSOLUTELY CONTRARY to everything that Christ came to do. HE fulfilled the law. He was the final sacrifice. He was THE passover lamb. He is THE High Priest. The law was just the shadow of things to come – JESUS!
The kingdom (spiritual had arrived! Postponement of the kingdom is a non-event!
It’s about time we understood the timing of the second appearing (Hebrews 9:28) as correct and reconsidered the NATURE of what we have been taught in error.
If the heavens and earth have not passed away, we should all still be living under the old covenant of Mosaic Law (Matthew 5:18). Christ constantly battled with the people trying to show them the spiritual significance of His ministry. Nothing has changed.
We look for a physical, bodily Jesus to return despite no precendence to believe this way exists (although no day of the Lord in the OT revealed a physical LORD either) – and Jesus was to come in the glory of His father was he not? (Mt 16:27, Mk 8:38).
We look for a future physical kingdom, when the one he came to establish (and did) was spiritual.
We look for him to one day be king sitting upon a physical throne on a new or refurbished earth, but yet we sing songs in praise to our present king. Which is it?
We look for a literal, physical, new heavens and earth but refuse to recognize the old “heavens and earth” has had to pass away already. This is Isaiah’s promise of Isaiah 65 and it has come to pass.
Look at the comparisons folks…
Old heaven and earth = old covenant people
New heaven and earth = new covenant people in Christ including both Jew and Gentile
Old Jerusalem is indicative of the old covenant center of worship
New Jerusalem is indicative of the Christ centered worship in spirit and in truth
Present age was the age of present old covenant worship in the temple. Christ was born in this “age.”
The “age” to come was the Messianic age when worship would not be possible in the temple. Hebrews 8:13, Hebrews 10:9)
Time defines nature, not the other way around!
Blessings from one who believes in the total accomplishment of Christ from the death, burial, resurrection, ascension and 2nd appearing unto salvation.
